They lie not dead, not asleep, but dormant. And although the space they occupy isn't like normal space, nevertheless they are packed in tightly/5.

Welcome to Guards. Guards!, the eighth book in Terry Pratchett’s legendary Discworld series. Long believed extinct, a superb specimen of draco nobilis ("noble dragon" for those who don't understand italics) has appeared in Discworld's greatest city/5().

Guards Guards would be amongst my favourite books and one I have read on numerous occasions. I love the City Watch created by Terry Pratchett and on top of that this book has one of those wonderful realistic romance stories mixed in with Sam Vimes and Sybil which I just love/5.

Guards. is one of Guards! Guards! book earlier discworld books and is the first time we are introduced to the City Watch making it their first in that line of books set in the discworld. This is a fantastic story and it is well read, however the truth is that Planer is not as good at the unabridged recordings as Briggs and as a result I have lowered my score.

Guards. Guards. is the eighth Discworld novel – and after this, dragons will never be the same again. Plot. The Unique and Supreme Lodge of the Elucidated Brethren of the Ebon Night is a secret society who plot to take over : Guards. mentioned as a favorite Discworld book.

It's not that for me: I found it less funny and less delightfully twisted than some of the previous books in the series (most notably Sourcery). It is, however, a good independent starting point and a solid Discworld entry with a few great moments.

This Study Guide consists of approximately 29 pages of chapter summaries, quotes, character analysis, themes, and more - everything you need to sharpen your knowledge of Guards. Guards!. The city of Ankh-Morpork no longer has a king and is now ruled by a corrupt Patrician.

Guards. Guards. Summary. The city of Ankh-Morpork no longer has a king and is now ruled by a corrupt Patrician. A secret society calls a dragon with the understanding that whoever kills it will be named King and bring a new rule to the kingdom.

This graphic novel of Terry Pratchett's Discworld book "Guards. Guards!" is certainly adequate as an adaptation of the original story, maintaining the original plot structure and characters, but I found the illustration style singularly distracting/5(39).

Guards. by friends who have read Pratchett as the first book to read in Discworld. I wouldn't have lost a year of NOT reading Discworld books if I was told to read Guards. It is astonishing that Pratchett wrote odd pages on a plot that where it all boils down to is: a dragon as a king of a city.5/5(5).

Guards. is the first book in the City Watch series. ‘Vimes ran a practised eye over the assortment before him. It was the usual Ankh-Morpork mob in times of crisis; half of them were here to complain, a quarter of them were here to watch the other half, and the remainder.

Long believed extinct, a superb specimen of draco nobilis ("noble dragon" for those who don't understand italics) has appeared in Discworld's greatest city/5().

What I like most about Guards. Guards. is that it exists at all. If you started reading Terry Pratchett early in his career, you became aware that you were reading a talented parody writer whose ability was developing book by book.

The Colour of M. guards. A secret decides to organise a coup by unleashing a dragon on the city and it’s up to the failing City Watchmen to save the city. Yes, it was still in that peculiar Terry Pratchett satirical fantasy in which you sometimes don’t know where you are in the book or what the point is, but I could get more on board with the humour this.

“The three rules of the Librarians of Time and Space are: 1) Silence; 2) Books must be returned no later than the last date shown; and 3) Do not interfere with the nature of causality.” ― Terry Pratchett, quote from Guards.

GUARDS. GUARDS. is the first book in the Discworld sub-series, where we meet Sam Vimes, captain of the Night Watch, the sorriest police force ever.

Vimes is a fabulous character in the way of film-noir, hard-boiled yet soft hearted with an iron core of courage and integrity.

Terry Pratchett's work is full of references, allusions, parodies and in-jokes. Hundreds of such references have been collected in the Annotated Pratchett File (APF). This page is part of the on-line version of the APF and contains all the annotations for the book "Guards! Guards!".Guards!
